Our Story
Built From the Work Itself
Smart Traffic Company was founded in 2015 by Daniel Bernal, beginning with pavement marking and specialty construction projects that took crews across the country to serve major retailers, distribution centers, and warehouse facilities.
In 2019, Quinton Brunner joined the company as a managing member and played a key role in expanding Smart Traffic Company’s presence throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. In 2022, Michael Martin became the company’s third owner and helped strengthen and grow its traffic control operations.
Smart Traffic Company began in Kansas City’s historic West Bottoms, where the company remains headquartered today. Each owner brought years of direct industry experience to the business, creating a leadership team with a practical understanding of the work performed in the field.
From its early beginnings, Smart Traffic Company has grown into a full-service pavement marking and traffic control contractor serving commercial, industrial, municipal, and roadway projects. The company’s services include parking lot and roadway striping, warehouse markings, traffic control, signage, bollard installation, wheel stops, pavement marking removal, and other traffic safety improvements.
Although the company has grown, its approach remains the same: provide dependable service, quality workmanship, clear communication, and practical solutions for every project.
Field Experience
Practical Planning for Real Sites
Smart Traffic KC is led by owners with firsthand experience in traffic control, striping, pavement marking, and related field operations.
That background helps us anticipate jobsite challenges, coordinate with other trades, and make practical decisions based on actual site conditions.
Our planning process considers the details that can affect production, including traffic flow, pedestrian access, pavement conditions, weather, construction sequencing, site access, material availability, and the schedules of other contractors. Reviewing these factors early helps reduce delays and gives our crews a clearer path to complete the work safely and efficiently.
Every project presents different challenges, whether the work is taking place at an active roadway, occupied parking lot, warehouse, distribution center, municipal facility, or construction site. We adjust our approach to fit the conditions of each location rather than relying on a standard plan that may not reflect how the property operates.
Clear communication is also an important part of our process. We work with contractors, property managers, facility operators, and project teams to confirm expectations, identify potential conflicts, and provide realistic schedules before work begins. When conditions change, our team responds quickly and communicates available options so informed decisions can be made.
By combining detailed preparation with practical field knowledge, Smart Traffic KC helps keep projects organized, minimize disruption, and deliver work that meets the needs of the customer, the site, and the people who use it.
